Introduction to Indian Festivals

India is a melting pot of cultures, civilizations and Indian festivals are as varied. Indian festivals occur through the year, and mark auspicious occasions heralding a new season, celebrating a religious occasion, celebrating mythological events. For the Indians, festivals are a reason for getting together, wear good clothes, buy sweets, have fun and spread the feeling of goodwill around. Indian Festivals are marked by vibrant, colorful and joyful celebrations.

Festivals are also an auspicious reason to get into a new enterprise, buy or sell property, buy a new vehicle, get married, and in contemporary times invest in the equity/stock market.

Every state in India has its own unique array of festivals, though there are certain festivals that are celebrated nationally irrespective of religion, caste or creed. Then there are Indian festivals that are celebrated across various states, but are known by different names.

Food is an important aspect of Indian festivals, and the very sight and smell of them is enough to satiate. Passed down from generations, and made specially for the festivals, it is a treat one shouldnt miss.
